Good day,

We are running into a new problem with our Defender TD5. This time the viscous fan is broken, thus we have no proper cooling anymore. Being stuck in Vicuna Chile, willing to pass the Agua Negra towards Argentina and heading North to Salta we are wondering if someone or a mechanic have a fan available for us.

Thanks in advance.

Hi buddy!

May be it's an emergency sollution to turn or screw a cord or a thin rope around the body of the viscous coupling in order to block it permanently to the pulley.
Is it possible for you? you only have to get a piece of rope (5-6 mm dia) and to screw several turns around the pulley. It could be made with the motor running so it will be screwed tight.

Hope it could help you, may be some local people will guide you to a garage to perform the fixing.

Regards and good luck!

Gabriel

Rope or a piece of metal wire. Do a couple of turns around between the clutch and the fan itself. That will lock it and will provide proper cooling. It will be a little noisier but would be ok. Don´t do deep wadings because you will brake the fan blades.

Abrazo Jan! Have a nice and fun 2017!

He Juan,

I wish we would pass Salta, but we have chosen to take the safe option and follow the Chilean coast with less height differences. For the moment we are in a Garage in Antofagasta. We met a friendly man willing to help us by allowing us to use his workshop/garage. i believe the car is back in good nick, and tomorrow we travel again.

We will not make it again to Argentina this time, but we will be back!! To nice of a Country, to many nice people we met.

Next is Bolivia!
Mucho gracias to you all.
Please make sure to contact us when you are ever in Belgium!!
